Women’s doubles gold medalists: Anyee and Olivia impress with a time of 5:56.7

Lowell Invitational Crew Regatta

By: Coach Blair Granum, May 27, 2023

Starting off the day strong we had impressive our women’s doubles:  Anyee and Olivia came home with the gold at 5:56.7!  After rowing all season in the quad, these two had a few practices in the double before race day.  Wow, did they ever impress us!

Coming in 4th of 5 with a time of 6:49.0 were Georgia and Lisa!  This was their “Redemption Row”, folks.  One year ago, at this same regatta, in the double, these two were not able to finish their race.  Their goal for yesterday was to finish and row well and strong.  Not only did they accomplish their goal, but they beat a boat as well!

Coming up next was Donovan in the men’s A singles.  Speeding down the course in 5:50.1, he earned a silver in his race, coming in just .5 seconds behind first!

Following the A singles, we had Lucie and Rourke in the B singles.  With a time of 5:54.9, Rourke lead the pack coming home with the gold!  Lucie held her own with the boys and earned herself a third place finish with a time of 6:30.7!

Late morning began our sweeping events.  After sculling (two oar per rower) all season, these next boats had just a few practices in the sweep (one oar each rower) discipline before race day.

The boy’s varsity 4+ had a hard-fought race, coming in 4th with a time of 5:28.5, just 5.5 seconds behind first place!
The boy’s novice 4+ gave it their all with a time of 6:14.3, coming in second behind Westford!

Finishing off the day was the novice girl’s 4+.  These five young ladies worked hard throughout the last week trying to learn how to sweep, and it sure paid off!  They brought home the gold with a time of 6:16.5!

What a great way to round out the season.  We’ve decided to give the kids a day off on Monday.  We’ll have a fun adventure row on Tuesday, and our final cookout on Wednesday.  Also on Wednesday, if there are friends or family members that would like to try rowing, we can squeeze that in as well.  BUT, please let me know asap if you would like to do that!

For Wednesday’s cookout, is anyone available to help with cooking some burgers?  Is anyone also able to help with organizing a food donation?  Please let me know.

Thank you all for allowing your kids to row!  We have enjoyed getting to know them and watching them excel!
