Youth Rowing Teams

Two options to build your skills

Competitive Team

Our competitive team is designed for motivated student-athletes who want to be part of a fast, fun team, and compete at local and regional races. The team practices 5 days/week on the water and on land during the spring and fall seasons. The competitive team is made up of two squads, Novice and Varsity. Novice athletes are in their first year of racing, and have the opportunity to compete against other novices at a regattas. This is the perfect starting point for kids new to racing. Your teen will receive training and work towards both personal and team goals. Great athletes make great rowers!

Varsity athletes have been rowing for at least one year. This is our advanced tier, where your teen will receive challenging training and experience friendly competition. In every step of the way, he or she will be led by our experienced and certified coaching team, whose members are former collegiate rowers and coxswains.

Recreational Team

The recreational team is designed for kids looking to learn and improve their technique in a more relaxed environment. The team practices 3 days per week, mostly on the water, and is a good fit for those who are new to rowing and not yet sure if they want to commit to the competitive team, or who have other after-school commitments outside of rowing.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never rowed before. How can I get involved?

We welcome teens with any amount of rowing experience–even none! Come to one of our free learn-to-row days, join a summer camp, or jump right in by signing up for a team.

What level is right for my child?

Whether you’re a seasoned rower or a beginner, our program welcomes all skill levels.

  • Recreational Team: Ideal for those with additional after-school commitments, or those who just want “a taste” of rowing. Train in singles, doubles and quads with a focus on skill development and fun.
  • Novice Competitive Team: A perfect starting point for those new to racing. Receive comprehensive training and work towards personal and team goals.
  • Varsity Competitive Team: For those ready to take their rowing to the next level. Experience challenging training and competition, guided by our experienced coaching team of former collegiate rowers and coxswains.

Is camp still on when it’s raining?

Yes! As long as there is no thunder, lightning, heavy winds, rains, or other weather risks we will be open.

All classes keep going; we have amazing indoor spaces.  If the forecast is for heavy winds, rain or other weather risk, we do stop boating operations, delay openings or close early.  You can always call the boathouse, check out our facebook page, or look on the website to find out.

What is the Gordon Battye Scholarship Fund? How do I apply?

In 2010, Joan Battye seeded the scholarship with $500 in the name of her late husband and former assistant manager Gordon Battye. Since 2010, this scholarship has helped hundreds of kids, teens and families afford the rowing, sailing, and boating programs at Regatta Point Community Sailing.
Gordon Battye’s love for the lake inspired the scholarship fund in his name to support access to RPCS / Lake Quinsigamond for anyone in our community regardless of age, ability, race, gender, religion, or economic status.

To apply, please fill out the Gordon Battye Scholarship Fund Request Form. You may request a copy of the form by emailing us at info (at) regattapoint (dot) org.
